So the night before Christmas Eve Clara started to not feel good. She was really sleepy and took a really long nap and just wasn't herself. In the middle of the night she woke up sick with a low grade fever. We didn't go to the McGee Christmas Eve get together bc she wasn't feeling good. Her nose was a little runny. Then Christmas Eve night she got a really high fever and threw up from the fever, and still just a runny nose. Christmas Day she seemed totally fine, running around like normal, just a runny nose. Sure enough the fever continued and would NOT stop, and I couldn't get it to come down with any medication. I took her to the doctor they just said it was a virus, her ears were clear, so just keep up with the cool mist vapor, tylenol/motrin etc. Two days later her fever was worse and would NOT go away, she slept about 20 hours out of the day and just cried a lot. She was miserable. So they had me get her blood drawn, and a chest xray and when I took her in, she had a double ear infection and it was really bad. She had to get a rocephin shot and oral antibiotics, and drops. I was worried she had contacted influenza but the blood work was negative for that, thank goodness.
As this was going on Jack began feeling bad. I thought he had the same thing as her. Took him in, they check his ears, they were clear, his blood panel came back clear for bacteria but he had RSV. I couldn't believe it! So she put him on antibiotics bc he more than likely would end up catching Clara's ear infection bc his immune system was shot from the RSV. RSV scares me to death but at his age he's totally fine. She made me feel so much better. I was on mega hermit status and didn't go anywhere bc it's contagious up to 14 days and can kill newborns. I took him back bc his ears were definitely infected about 5 days later and he needed a rocephin shot too, but his blood panel came back and his RSV was gone. So that was good. I swear shots are the way to go. Within 24 hours of the shot both my kids were back to themselves. So for almost 2 weeks I was a walking zombie, pregnant, up all night with one or both kids. It was rough but man was I happy when it was over and they were back to their ornery selves. There is nothing worse that seeing your babies sick and not being able to fix them or make them feel better. I'd much rather be the one sick in a heartbeat. The pediatrician was my home away from home for about a week there. I was in there practically everyday.
Both of them finally feeling better and smiling. I hadn't seen them smile in days! Jack has to see the ENT in February bc this was his 3rd ear infection (revolving) since November. And same time last year he had it treated 3 times from Nov to Jan. So he may need tubes. It's literally once a year my kids get sick, and usually the same time of year, like everybody else. Tis the Season...to wash and sanitize your hands!
